IPMN is excited to be in Pittsburgh for the 220th General Assembly. IPMN has been quite busy the past several days at General Assembly. Committee 15, the committee tasked with overtures related to Middle East Peace, met on Monday and Tuesday to deliberate. With an overwhelming majority they voted to recommend divesting from Motorolla, Hewlett Packard, and Caterpillar. In addition, they also voted to boycott products made in the illegal Israeli Settlements in the West Bank, including products made by Ahava, and Hadiklaim, an Israeli date growers organization. We hosted a packed crowd in our hospitatlity room for a beer, wine, and cheese art exhibit highlighting several of the art displayed in our room. Additionally, we hosted a dinner and lunch, both of which were very well attended. We heard from Cindy Corrie, the mother of Rachel Corrie, Hedy Epstein, a Holocaust survivor, and Anna Baltzer, a Jewish-American organizer with the U.S. Campaign to End the Occupation. Today, July 4th, we hosted a lunch with speaker Rami Khouri, an Orthodox Christian Palestinian and Editor-at-Large of The Daily Star Beirut and Professor at the American University of Beirut. Khouri discussed the Arab Spring and how the Israeli-Palestinian conflict impacts the situation.
Thursday 7/05
Make sure to catch the IPMN Singers at 8:00 AM right across from the Westin Hotel. We will also hand out flyers, and gather together before commisioners enter the plenary hall. Thursday will be a crucial day, as the Assembly will consider whether or not to approve the recommendations of Committee 15. Deliberations will begin at 3:00 PM and are expected to continue until 5:30 PM, with a vote to be taken immediately after the deliberation ends.
